We're gonna read a book, and our book, um, if you've heard, and I'm, I'm sure you have, is the book is titled Friendship in the Lord, and it's by a Dominican priest named Father Paul Hennebusch.
We're gonna dive in here just to the intro and the prologue today, and then we're gonna go in y- all of the reading schedule is on our social media.
But Heather, Michelle, maybe real quickly before we dive in, as you guys looked over the book and kind of as we thought about a summer book study, Michelle, what, what is your heart for the series as we kick this off?
I really love this book, and, uh, we were talking before we started recording that it is really rich.
It's actually a posit- a way to position your heart and allow the Holy Spirit to come through and allow...
It's an instruction manual allowing the Holy Spirit to show you what true friendship is within yourself and with other people, and I really-- Yeah, I was just-- We were-- When I was just reading, I'm like, "All right.
... like I was like, "There's a lot here for me just to unpack and discover and really just to reveal about the movements of my heart about friendship and, and how to really root it in the Lord." You know, we say that we do, but how to really allow the Holy Spirit to l- let us be rooted in the Lord in our relationships.
I love what you said there about it's a way to position our heart towards friendship.
I think for many of us, we don't take very much time to really think through, like what, what is friendship all about? What is holy friendships? What is life-giving friendships? What are healthy friendships? We can just kinda meet people and be like, "Hey, it's good," or, "It's not good," you know, and things fall apart, and we don't really understand why, or things are going great and we don't really understand why.
And so I think, yeah, w- as I've been just starting to read this book, I was like, "Oh, wow, there's so much in here already," in just like the first little bit that I was like, "Oh, there's so much to meditate on and pray with," you know, to take to prayer about specific relationships and go, "Is this really, like, the foundation of this relationship? Maybe that's why, you know, things are not going as well as I would hope," or something like that.
So yeah, I love that, and I, I think it's really gonna help all of us, so I'm excited about it.
So this book was written in, in 1974 by, by Father Paul Hennebusch, who was a prolific author and also lecturer at the time, and the book is way ahead of its time.
