S03E05 - Unbowed and Unbent - Feedback

First up is Paul with a common complaint on these types of shows.

Can we get at least one scene of somebody looking at a map, discussing troop sizes and movement so we know where everyone is and where they're going? We get one little scene of a child and an old man talking about crossing the river, but I don't know how many troops they have, where they're headed, how long it'll take to get there.

And I get the whole cursed castle witch protected thing, but are no troops at all hanging around Harrenhal? Safety's one at a time.

... do you feel, as king, that you have a good enough idea about the disposition of the troops around Westeros that you could order them about in battle if you were to be a black or a green offending or defending the realm?

Just barely, a- and actually kind of shading to the side of no because I don't know the numbers.

I, I, I kind of, sort of know numbers, but I couldn't tell you if 15,000 men in Ormund's army is a lot compared to the army that, uh, little baby Tully has.

Like, I, I just don't know-

if he could steamroll that town or if it's going to be a tough fight, or he's at a huge disadvantage.

Uh, positionally, I think I'm pretty well aware, but that's because I spend no fewer than 10 hours to 12 hours a week thinking about the show and looking at maps, and talking with you, who explains where everybody is in great detail.

I don't know that I would know that without that.

So I, I agree, we need a map r- uh, map room scene, and we get those in previous seasons, but not so much in this one.

It's interesting because I love lore, and I love reading books, and I like mil- you know, kind of science fiction and, uh, um, medieval military stuff is...

I think is also very interesting.

And a lot of the series I read, um, fall afoul of, like, when the authors give definitive numbers, I think especially, like, Warhammer.

Um, it's, it's always been mentioned that you'll have this massive battle, the last years on this planet, and Warhammer has a million planets the Empire can control with trillions of people living on each, and the result of the battle is, like, 2.3 million guardsmen lie dead.

And it's like-
