Viserys I Targaryen

It's so enjoyable to watch.

And it kicked off with Patty Constantine, who gave this incredible performance as King Viserys, this rotting corpse of a man over decades of his life, but with so much heart, if not deep weakness and, you know, like physical weakness, but also a weakness in leadership in both the realm and his family.

But you can't help but like him.

You can't help but feel for him.

You like him.

And I'm so happy to, again, to see him have carved out this spot for himself that can never be taken away from him.

I don't know if he won the Emmy for Viserys.

He was certainly nominated and deservedly so.

She, she almost lost Daemon.

I mean, they're trying to make this arc for her that she went, that she's going full bore, like she's ditching Viserys's philosophy and, and she goes in there and says, you know, "Don't harm no one." But they wanna make her seem like she's lost her mind and she's gone bad.

Then you go in there and you burn the town down.

You take the town over.

Totally fine.

Okay, so when we start out on House of the Dragon, I believe it begins right at the beginning where I believe it's King Jaehaerys is going to name his heir, but he had to have a council of noblemen vote whether it was going to be Rhaenys or Viserys.

And Rhaenys was his eldest female descendant, and Viserys was the eldest male.

And of course, they voted in the male over the female.

And from that moment forward, Rhaenys was called the queen who never was.

And surprise, surprise, they picked the man.

Yeah, surprise.

But then you do see that repeated when you get Viserys, you know, when he doesn't have a male heir, which is exactly the position Henry I finds himself in towards the end of his reign after the you see Viserys kind of causing people to swear oaths of allegiance to Rhaenyra as his daughter to recognise her when he dies, which is exactly what Henry I does in kind of the late 1120s and into the 1130s.

And some of it is sort of at the behest of the prophecy.

Like, you sort of can't have her just being fire and blood right away because that would almost betray the, the loyalty she had to Viserys.

But then you still need to get her there, so what do you do? You create all kinds of problems for her, right? And, and Torrhen Manderly I guess is another example of this where they sort of reframe him from the book where in the book he kinda solves the problems of, you know, the gold being missing.

And I got this email and I started thinking about that, and the fact that, like, Aemond is ashamed, and he is ready to, to, to earnestly play his part as the second brother.

As, you know, kinda like the...

He's, he's ready to be d- um, he's ready to be, uh, Aegon's Daemon, the way Viserys.

You know, like any time the king had some dirty business that need to be done, a tough war, some skull, like, you know, Daemon's reliable.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

So there was like the king, he had daughters, and then I think he ended up giving it to, I think Viserys was Rhaenys' cousin.

Yeah.

So that's how that happened.

He didn't like make an announcement.

And then he made that stupid remark to Alicent because he was losing his mind and he thought Alicent was Rhaenyra.

You couldn't have put it in writing? Have you heard of a will? Ever heard of a will, Viserys?

Didn't he publicly announce it, though? Wasn't that supposed to be the end of it? He had that whole ceremony for her because he was like, hey, she's going to be the...

I can do a good panic attack.

but yeah then she goes on as like fucking Viserys he put me here and she is so right she absolutely is his indecision refusing to like what's the word I'm looking for refusing to like jump in either way it's like he never really supported her he never He absolutely never backed down from the fact that she should be his heir.

Yeah.

But he did not set her up for the rule.

He just let all of this happen around him.

He didn't do anything, per se.

Viserys's biggest crime is doing nothing.

Yeah.
