Why do so many work-life balance tips sound good… but don’t actually help for very long? If you’ve ever tried waking up earlier, getting more organized, saying no more often, time blocking better, or…
So as I was thinking about this episode, I kept coming back to the story of Simon Peter and the infamous catch.
You know, wrapping my brain around the idea of the cycle of burnout, I kind of think a lot of women are living in Luke 5 and just don't even realize it.
So Simon had been, you know, out working all night to catch fish with his brother, Andrew.
He knew what he was doing.
He was experienced, and in fact, he, he had done this late-night catch a time or two before.
So he recognized the work ahead.
Like, he knew the exact route and effort that it would require.
But still, his nets kept coming up empty.
Like, nothing all night long.
And then the next morning, he encounters Jesus, who tells him to put out, you know, into deeper water and let down the nets for a catch.
And Simon, whose logical brain is likely thinking, [laughs] "Really, though?" [laughs] You know? But instead, he answers, "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything.
But because you say so, I will let down the nets." And here, y'all, I've gotta say, like, if you've not seen this visually on The Chosen, just pause me right now.
I don't even care.
[laughs] I'll link it in the show notes.
Uh, go watch this.
It's season one, episode four.
It, it brings me to tears every time, just the mercy [laughs] and the goodness from our Father in this moment.[exhales] Like, because when, when they did what Jesus said, they caught the largest haul of fish that their nets began to break.
And that just feels so relevant because there are so many women right now who are thinking, "I have been trying.
I have been working.
I have been showing up.
I have been doing all the things that I know to do.
So why does this still feel so hard? Why do I keep feeling so stuck? Why doesn't the, the career or this role of motherhood fulfill me the way that it used to?" And if we look at Simon, you know, he wasn't lazy.
He was tired.
He was striving really hard.
And you are also not lazy.
