In this episode of the Wine and Gold Talk podcast, host Ethan Sands and beat reporter Chris Fedor answer Subtext subscriber questions regarding the Cavs. The discussion focuses on Evan Mobley's…
He says, why have the Cavs not addressed Evan Mobley's routine slash approach at the free throw line? You can see it in his eyes that he's not comfortable slash confident there.
Well, Chris, I think Andy may have a point here from what we've seen over Evan Mobley's career as a free throw shooter, but particularly after the game on Monday night against Minnesota, where he was two of six from the free throw line.
And historically as well, Evan Mobley, as I mentioned, is not a good free throw shooter.
For the year, he's shooting 56.3% from the line in 2026-2027 with 5.3 attempts per game.
And his career average is 67.3. Chris, is this more than just a mental component that Evan Mobley hasn't conquered? Is this something that the Cavs need to inspect? What do you think is going on with Evan Mobley at the charity strike?
I think the first thing that I'll say, Ethan, is that not everybody is going to be a good free throw shooter.
No matter what they do, they're just not going to be good free throw shooters.
It's funny, though, with Evan, because sometimes he has a hitch in his shot and sometimes he doesn't.
I sit next to Danny Cunningham from Lockdown, and we always look at Evan, whether it's a free throw or it's a three point shot.
