How are you talking about all of this with your kids?

So I have been radically transparent in an as age appropriate way as I can.

I don't believe we should hide the truth from children.

I think kids already know a lot more than they ever say.

And I have done a very careful job to put blame where it is due.

I also have the story of being the child in not this exact situation, but basically this situation.

And my mom at the time was a marriage and family therapist.

And the belief back then was you don't tell kids those things.

You keep all of it from the kids.

Well, that made a pretty big riff between us.

And eventually when I heard the story, I heard it from the other party.

And I heard it where she was the controlling one and he was the victim.

And, you know, teenager me.

just furthered my rebellion.

And I went down the journey to go repeat the pattern.

And so I've done different.

I've been honest and transparent from the beginning.

I've used age-appropriate language.

So this has changed from at a five-year-old's because my youngest was five.

Daddy has a sickness because that's what we can understand.

And he doesn't know the difference between right and wrong because how else do you describe mental health to a five-year-old's? to eventually now I have teenagers.

And so the evolution of that has changed.

And my 13-year-old, who was the most in danger, I have only in the last six months given him more context at his, you know, and waiting till he's asking and he's ready and he has more understanding for himself.

And so that's just really changed.

And so I don't, none of them have read the book or wanted to read the book, but at some point when they're more older if they want to.
