Matt SidholmHostAnd my time was running wild and me in dead-end streets And every time I thought I got it made It seemed the taste was not so sweet to me So I turn myself to face me But I've never caught a glimpse Of how the others must see the faker I'm much too fast to take that test.
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes.

face the strain.

So David Bowie, he wrote this song in 71 after returning from his first U.S. tour.

And Ziggy is arguably the most radical reinvention, definitely of his career, but in music history in general.

And I love that this song changes his basically his journal entry before that leap.

And it's funny because he describes this song as a parody, but really what song of his hasn't he described as a parody of some song at some point? And I love the ch-ch-ch stutter because it's both about the hesitation and about the, you know, catching someone mid-transformation.

where the old self is still there and the new one hasn't fully come to focus yet.

And I also love that he played the saxophone because, yeah, if you're going through change, why not have fun with everything that you can do with it?

I love this as the opening track to this mix because not only does it work kind of thematically just as a song, but also who better to talk about like doing your own thing and chasing your dreams than David Bowie, right? Because I mean, that was a guy, I don't even know how you classify his music, right? Like, was it like rock? Was it dance? Was it, you know, like...

Calypso I don't know like he did so many different things in his career and just went in so many different directions and of course like you referenced the Ziggy Stardust reinvention where he absolutely did his own thing there right so yeah just a great way to kick it off and you're right I love what you said about the cha-cha-cha that is that hesitation like sometimes we're not 100% sure of this new direction we might want to go in so that is awesome so great choice to start us off

What's the strange? The strange, is it the new job or is it yourself? And I like to believe that it's yourself.
