23rd August 2026 (am) - Psalm 90

Somewhat more concerning...

Actually, the more information I put into one of these websites, the further my life expectancy drops.

So...

One solid prediction gives me only to 2057.

It's horrific, isn't it? It seems to me these websites, they exist to make one of two points.

They're coming from one of two different attitudes, really.

Some of them are they're actually trying to give a serious wake up call to people to say, you know, life is precious.

Look after yourself.

You might want to cut out doing X, Y and Z because you live longer.

And make the most of what time you have, you know, clock they're ticking.

Every second's precious.

Make the most of your life.

Others of them, though, take this more lighthearted approach.

They want to decorate them with skulls and skeletons and all of this stuff.

And I think this is because using humor about death is one way that we deal with it, isn't it? I think it's a particularly British thing to laugh at macabre things like this.

Spike Milligan, you remember him? You know, you probably know this.

He had this epitaph written on his headstone when he was buried.

He had it written in Gaelic.

And basically, if you translated it, it just said, I told you I was ill.

Then you've got Woody Allen, the other side of the Atlantic.

He once quipped, I'm not afraid of death.

I just don't want to be there when it happens.

It's this sort of humorous attitude.

And we have all kinds of euphemisms for dying too, don't we? Because we don't like talking about it.

So it's kicking the bucket, isn't it? It's unleashing the mortal coil, pushing up the daisies, biting the dust.
