Luke 13

Join us as we read the Gospels together.

Now, normally y'all know we read three chapters a day to get through the whole four books in 30 days but this month is a little different we are mixing it up and reading the gospels chronologically from the new international version or the niv so we read stories in the order in which they took place usually getting something from all four books so i'll share the references with you here at the beginning and you can find them in the show notes as well you can listen or read along in your own bible and then i'll pray and that's it Luke 11, 14 through 54, Luke 12, Luke 13, 1 through 21, and John 9 in the NIV.

Jesus and the Prince of Demons from Luke.

Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute.

But there is an answer to the problem we face today, a prophetic prescription that you can see in the Bible over and over again.

In Luke 13, the Lord talks about a gentleman by the name of Bartimaeus who was blind and he calls out to Jesus and he says, please give me sight.

And as everything in the Bible, there's so much deeper meaning to it because Bartimaeus means son of Jesus.

honor bar is the Aramaic word meaning son of, and Timaeus is a Greek name derived from time, meaning honor value or price.

So if Satan is left unchallenged over a situation, he keeps the situation under his own control.

Luke 13 and verse 11, Luke 13, 11.

And behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity 18 years and was bound together and could in no wise lift up herself.

Now Jesus diagnosing a problem in verse 16 and looked at in verse 16.

2 Peter 2:6-8 says, "Lot was oppressed by the sensual conduct of the men around him." Listen to this, "For by what he saw and heard, that righteous man, while living among them, felt his righteous soul tormented day after day by their lawless deeds." Is that how your own soul feels with the sins against God that permeate our culture? Number two, don't focus so much on Jesus' love and compassion toward the sinner, which is true, and we need to focus on, but don't focus on it so much that you ignore his calls to repentance and his warnings about the coming wrath.

Jesus, who loved the sinner, said in Luke 13:3, "Unless you repent, you will perish." That was his message repeatedly to sinners.

Number three, don't misunderstand Jesus' attacks on unbelieving Pharisees and their legalism as a rebuke on believers who speak out against biblical sins in the culture.

Now listen, there are a lot of believers who do it very poorly.

He didn't bother explaining that bad things happen to good people.

He just said, this is repent, right? Like almost as if these kinds of things, you know, are going to happen, but the call is always to repent because you never know when those things could happen, right? Well, I

That's why sometimes when we present Christ and we tell people to believe in Christ, we don't get into the area of repenting for sin.

And I often wonder, is their salvation really legitimate? If they're done that repentance in their heart, certainly, Jesus in Luke 13, 3, interesting statement.

He says, I tell you, nay, but except you repent, you shall all likewise perish.

Well, that sounds like to me like repentance has got to be there.
