Psalm 106

And just, you know, look at it.

psalm 106 is another one we didn't go into it in depth here but 106 verses 34 through 39 um is another place to kind of go and look um at all of this stuff i will also just say that um We host a Bible study that we do on the third Wednesday evening of every month.

If you're in North America or that part of the world, it's the third Thursday morning or midday.

And I think rightly so.

And children are are involved in the tragedy that we see in Psalm 106, 28 through 39 today.

And as we look at this, I hope it helps shed some light on some tragedies that happen today that involve children.

And as you look at Psalm 100, 28, or 106, 28 through 39, remember, this is not the most cheerful Psalm because it's talking about how the people have sinned.

Amen.

Psalm 106, verses 40 to 48.

Therefore, the Lord was angry with His people and abhorred His inheritance.

He gave them into the hands of the nations, and their foes ruled over them.

This is where some of the major reference points appear.

You get Shittim in Deuteronomy 32.17 and Psalm 106.37 where sacrifices are offered to beings often translated as demons.

But even there, the immediate issue is not a fully worked out infernal taxonomy.

The issue is false worship, sacrifice offered to powers other than the God of Israel.

For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Our Psalm reading today is Psalm 106, 40-48.

Therefore the Lord was angry with his people and abhorred his inheritance.

He gave them into the hands of the nations, and their foes ruled over them.

And it's a cause for us to pray for our nation.

But I think these are even helpful for us to understand some of our reading today in Psalm 106.

Because we often look at the Israelites and we say, how are they so silly? How do they forget as a nation so quickly? And maybe today of all days is a helpful day for us to realize when we do that, it's a bit of the pot calling the kettle black.

When we look out, oh, Israel, how did you forget so quickly? Well, how was our nation doing at remembering all the things that it needs to remember? remember.

That's something the Bible calls us to do, to pray for our leaders.

I think it should always remind us this is why we need the light, the bright light of faithful churches being salt and light in our society.

But I want us to zero in a bit personally as we read through Psalm 106.

The nation of Israel had a problem with forgetting.

I often quote this verse to God and remind him of his promise that his power is made perfect in my weakness.

From Psalm 106

Many times he delivered them, but they were bent on rebellion, and they wasted away in their sin.

But he took note of their distress when he heard their cry.
