Send us Fan Mail In this episode we reflect upon the Vipers side’s third match of the Development Tournament, this time against Gulf Giants, and…
Jack LuffmanGuestMUSIC PLAYS It's fair to say this was, by modern 2020 norms, a very unusual game.
But despite restricting their opponents to such a low score, it was by no means an easy chase for the Vipers, who eventually got home despite a wobble, that saw them at 56 for four and then 69 for five.
The wickets for the Vipers bowlers were shared around among all six used by Vitya Aravind, with Wazim Akram the most successful with three for 23.
There were two wickets apiece for Matiullah Khan, leg spinner Hilal Afghan and Wali Mohammed, and Sanjay Bahal picked up the other one to fall.
If the Vipers were hoping for a straightforward chase, then the Gulf Giants bowlers and fielders had other ideas, and wickets fell at regular intervals indeed.
When the scoreboard read 69 for 5, the match appeared to hang in the balance.
Two important innings helped to take the Vipers over the line as Nilanj Keswani made an unbeaten 27 from 33 balls with only two fours while Zeeshan Abid in his first innings of the tournament eased any pressure that was building by scoring 21 from 13 deliveries with two fours and two sixes.
So a second win for the Vipers team and after three matches on the first four days of the tournament the side now has two clear days before its fourth outing against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders on Sunday 20th September.
A day after that, and Vitya Aravind's side play their final match of the league stage before, hopefully, the semi-finals on Wednesday 23rd and the final the day after that.
Remember, the Vipers were runners-up 12 months ago, losing out to Sharjah Warriors.
Now then, it's time to look back on the match against Gulf Giants through the eyes of Jack Luffman.
