Episode 564: Episode 564 - Secrets of Prayer

So, all right, we're in Colossians chapter four.

And we talked last time, we finished this section where he has been talking to wives, husbands, children, fathers, slaves, masters, and now he's turning his attention to the church at large.

And he begins to tackle this subject of prayer.

Now, in the world that you and I live in, let me give you a quote here.

This is by a Christian artist from yesteryear, this gal by the name of Kim Hill.

She said this.

I thought this was important.

She says, careful what you're saying.

Someone could get burned.

There's a fatal fire in words like a shooting arrow hurling through the dark.

Words are piercing when they hit their mark.

And this just underscores the power that can be found in spoken speech.

With a few words, a war can be declared.

With a few words, a doctor can sink a patient's heart into despair or lift them up into ecstasy.

With a few words, a judge speaks and a man is either condemned or freed.

But then God speaks.

And when God speaks, galaxies are instantly formed out of nothing.

He speaks and a nation is snuffed out of existence.

Or He speaks and a nation is brought into existence again.

God speaks and a sinner is forgiven.

God speaks and we are born again by the spoken word of God and by the power of the Holy Spirit.

And then when Christians speak, we can use our words to heal.

We can use our words to hurt.

We can, like a brick, we can build a house with it or we can throw it through a window.

Either way, our words are like that.
