We've been following developments with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, The Observer, reporting on the latest developments involving Melissa Balknight.

She is the acting superintendent.

And she had already announced she was out of here.

Now we have word she is indeed going to stay beyond the time that she was intending to retire while the school board searches for a permanent leader.

This announcement was made official yesterday.

So this will pretty much keep her in place of being a caretaker.

until some of these issues revolving around Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools, the investigations, and obviously the superintendent search.

There is some resolution there.

So that is the latest big development on this particular front.

She was the deputy superintendent there.

She was planning to retire January 1st before the departure of Crystal Hill, who was fired.

But now at least this area of uncertainty has disappeared.

So she will be staying around for an extended period of time here.

For those who are not familiar with Balknight, she's worked in public education for more than three decades, served in leadership roles in CMS and Gaston County Schools.

and in a news release they described her as overseeing historic academic gains for the district in the role as deputy superintendent so there you go i'm curious as to whether this provides some reassurance some comfort for the time being while some of these issues regarding cms are resolved i want to quickly talk about economics I said to you, going back before this presidential term, I had a strong feeling that this particular term is going to look very different than the first.
