Lie #5: Love Is Love: Lies of the Enemy Series

Now let's go back and look at verse six again.

It says, love does not rejoice in wrongdoing or sin, but rejoices with the truth.

If this is the case, we can't separate love from truth.

So the next question we have to ask ourself is what is truth? Well, the Bible tells us three things that are truth.

Number one, Jesus is truth.

John 14, 6, Jesus says, I am the way, the truth, the life.

No one gets to come to the Father except by him.

The second thing the Bible tells us is truth is the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is truth.

John 16, 13 says, when the spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.

Then the third thing that the Bible says is truth is the Bible.

John 17, 17 says, sanctify them in the truth.

Your word? Jesus, the Holy Spirit, God's word, these are the highest form of truth.

And only when we understand who God is and what his word says, can we actually understand what love is.

We don't get to define love by our understanding or lack of understanding of who God is.

Sadly, a lot of Christians today, really a lot of churches today, are changing the words in the Bible to fit whatever they want to believe.

When reading the Bible, we can't just make it say whatever we want.

We can't make it fit into how we feel or what we wish was true.

Instead of shaping the culture to fit the Word of God, they're changing the Word of God to fit the culture.

The thing about truth is it never changes.

It doesn't change with a culture.

It doesn't change with our beliefs or what we think should be right.

Truth always stays the same or it wouldn't be truth.

And we cannot have true love apart from that truth.
