Muharram 1448
Mahdi RastaniGuest
The reality is, every year when we gather during the month of Muharram and during the month of Safar, there are many majalis put together to speak of the praises and the fada'il of the Ahlul Bayt.

They wanted us to gather in order to remember them, remember their status, and remember their sacrifice.

But one of the important aspects of the event and the incident of Karbala that we always need to pay attention to is how the people who were on the wrong side of history ended up there.

What exactly are there in terms of lessons that we can understand from this army that is standing in front of the grandson of the messenger of Allah? They are claiming to be followers of the message of his grandfather.

They are claiming to be followers of that message that his family sacrificed for so much.

And at the same time, they find it within their rights and they give themselves the permission to shed his blood.

How is that even possible? How did this army that's in front of Imam Hussain reach this point where they were willing to shed the blood of the grandson of the messenger of Allah and the son of Fatima? When we begin to look at how these individuals looked at the world around them, you start to see one common pattern.

And that common pattern is that these individuals engage in a cost-benefit analysis when it came to carrying out such an evil deed.

And somewhere in that cost-benefit analysis, they put the killing of the Imam on one side, And they put that wealth or that position or whatever dunya we reward it was on the other side.

And the dunya was so heavy for them that still it would have made sense from their perspective to go ahead with this crime.

And in all of those who stood there on the 10th of Muharram, and who were part of this army, there is a story of one person in particular that stands out the most, and that is the story of Umar ibn Sa'd.

Umar ibn Sa'd is a person who you will see is not initially interested in shedding the blood of the grandson of the Messenger of Allah, yet, you can easily see him doing his cost-benefit analysis in real time.

Many of these others who showed up on the 10th of Muharram, we don't have detailed information about every step of the way, what were they thinking.

But when it comes to Umar ibn Sa'd, we have quite a bit of historical information.

And so he went from the type of person who didn't want to kill the grandson of the Messenger of Allah, to the one who carried out some of the most horrific things on the 10th of Muharram, including ordering his troops to trample the body of the shuhada.

What makes someone like Umar ibn Sa'd end up in the plains of Karbala with his hands bloodied with the blood of Hussain ibn Ali? And in order to delve into this topic, we'll pose the following questions.

Number one, What lessons are there that we can learn from the lives of the killers of Imam al-Hussain? Number two, who were the killers of Imam al-Hussain? And is it true when people say that the Shia were those who killed Imam al-Hussain in the plains of Karbala? Or is this historically inaccurate? Number three, what are the different groups of people who wrote letters to the Imam in order for him to come to the city of Kufa? Number four, what is the age-old trick that Shaytan used starting with our father Adam and continues to use today to get people to sell their akhira for the sake of the dunya? And number five, and finally, how did Imam Hussain tell Umar ibn Sa'd in the plains of Karbala that what he's doing is not worth it? And the reward for which he's willing to kill the grandson of the messenger of Allah will never be received by him.

Tonight, inshallah, we'll delve into these five questions with a loud salawat ala Muhammadin wa ali Muhammad.
