Lifelong Latics fan Shaun tells the stories of his time following the club
Uh, I mean, I, I didn't live near the ground, so it was always exciting, uh, just getting to the ground.
Uh, and I think that's same for a lot of people, isn't it? Like, you build it up before you go in and, uh, maybe it's 'cause you were a lot younger as well, but it always seemed to me like there was a lot more, a lot, a lot bigger crowd than probably what there was in, you know.
Um, I mean, I always think the atmosphere at Springfield Park, uh, seemed miles louder than i-in the stadium here and, you know, on, on, on, on numbers of attendance.
It, it, it, it couldn't be really, could it? But it, it did seem, uh, a lot more like raucous and a lot more...
Uh, just really lively, and it was always freezing cold on top of the, like, hilly bit.
Once you got up the dirt, dirt track, I mean, that, that was, uh, that was always a bit nerve-wracking 'cause I'm in a chair.
Uh, trying to get up the dirt track bit, uh, with like my cousins and my, and my stepdad, like, giving us a push, and it was always like, uh, dancing with death a bit.
One of my main memories I always have is like... 'Cause I love, uh, uh, when I was a kid, I always used to get in the nets on my knees.
Um, 'cause with my cerebral palsy, I could get on my knees, and I was always in the nets in the back garden.
So, uh, I think spotting Roy Carroll and, like, trying to, trying to wave to him and say, "Oh, that's Roy Carroll." And it, it's weird when you see p-players just going past you.
You, uh, I think no matter what level they are, when you're a kid, they are like sort of, um...
You think they're sorta like superhero kind of people, don't you? And they, they're only, they're only people, aren't they? But you forget that when you're a kid.
Uh, I, I have been on the platform before and, and really, th- you know, you probably do get a better view on the platform of a-all the pitch.
But I like how-- I like hearing them where they, where they're shouting, and like, you can hear th- hear them communicating.
Uh, and also, i-it-- I just find it, it, it, it's, uh, it always, it always blows my mind how hard it hits the, hits the back of the boards.
I think, "That'd break me hand." Uh, but they just, they've just, they've just hit it soft.
Do you know what I mean? And I think you see as well what I like d-doing is like, you know, y-y-you see how good the touch is and how, how good even at this level.
