Ed and Stefano explore what’s changing for your home server, unpacking Unraid 8’s move to Fedora, native backups, ZFS snapshots, and Docker Compose integration. What changes, what stays, and where do…
So first we're going to start off with a little bit of housekeeping because we've had two Unraid builds land on the 3rd of September.
We had the 7.3.3 RC1 security fixes, new kernel API updates, Docker and web UI fixes, et cetera.
But also we had the 7.4 beta and this is actually where the new toys are.
So we've got a new shared task tray.
So background jobs from plugins and containers and VMs, etc.
They're all in one place and you can pull them back up from any tab.
and we've got multi network docker where the container can sit on more than one custom network and those attachments actually survive when you update the image because previously that didn't used to work very reliably and we often had to use various work around scripts etc but now that's been fixed and so that's really great to see that and also there's a configurable power button so the power button on the front of your server you can actually choose what that does now so you can either have it shut down the server restart or do nothing at all so pretty good i guess if you've got a toddler who's got a fascination with an illuminated light on the front of your server you can set it so it doesn't do anything or if you've got a dog or something like me who will brush against the server rack and accidentally press the button it's quite a useful little feature
