Um, they are usually depicted as, imagine a centaur, but instead of the lower half of a horse, it's the lower half of a lion, and the upper half of a person, um, said to have made an ancient bargain with Graz'zt.

Um, and ex- and, and all of that is true except for the fourth edition version, which was a fey creature that was made up of a swarm of scarabs.

And all of those things just keep drifting further from, like, the original Greek myth, which was basically Hera got mad at one of the people Zeus was interested in and turned her into something that ate children, after killing her children.
Yeah, I will say that, like, any time the Greek gods turn someone into something, the destination creature being a fey fits pretty well-

Uh, although that, that brings up a good point, that we went from a, uh, the lamia being a monstrosity in the 2014 rules to it being a fiend now in the, uh, 5.5 rules.
Um, and I do in the broad agree with, like, shuffling the more sentient things out of monstrosity where possible.
