457. MiOsc on Wu-Tang Clan, hard work, and culture

We just wrapped a very exciting week, actually, as we had a, I guess it's like a round two, round two with the Wu, right? So it was really great because we got a chance to go to the Wu-Tang concert here in Orlando.

But in addition, since my podcast last year with the RZA was so well received, I kind of tried to keep in touch and said, hey, you guys are coming to Orlando.

We would love, love, love to host you at the famed Wallum Temple here right in Orlando, Florida.

And, you know, with show schedules, with touring, with just the grind of everything, I did not really think it was going to happen.

And you know what? It did.

It

did.

The RZA happened.

And a lot of the band members, you know, from the drummer to the trumpet player and the guitarist, like, it was so great to have them come to the temple.

And we put on a really cool show.

We did some dragons, some drumming, and lion, and kung fu, and just kind of wanted to give them that warm Wallum Orlando welcome, but also just wanted to... kind of show my appreciation for the awesome interview we had last year.

And also they hosted us, right? They brought us into the concert to enjoy the music, to be a part of it.

And then, of course, afterwards, we had such valuable time.

If you didn't catch that post concert episode i will link that here from the first interview with the RZA we didn't do another podcast episode but it was it was actually really nice because we had some down time which was really nice to really kind of get to know him a little bit more and of course shout out to Talani the most lovely beautiful human that is of course RZA's wife that has been so hospitable as well so they also hosted us after the concert we had a really great time getting to know everyone a little more and just sharing space and philosophizing I think RZA can't help himself but to philosophize he's got so much such a way with words

yeah I think that's your profession is to be a lyricist you have a way with words if your position is the leader of a famed clan then you probably have the opportunity to use those words in a in an instructor type of capacity Yes, yes.

And that's what happens.

I was actually teasing Talani and telling her, well, you know, it's really funny.

After the concert last year, we were with my cousins and we did like kind of a family reunion thing and we were like kind of analyzing and going, oh, you know, if you were a member of the Wu-Tang Clan, which one do you identify with? And I think RZA and I really, I think RZA really resonates with me because as kind of a leader of an organization and also kind of the person that is in charge of not scheduling, that's the wrong word, but organizing and really collaborating and bringing things together.

It's something I can kind of empathize with on a completely different, in a different realm.

But one thing that we both agreed on was that, you know, that hard work ethic of Kung Fu and what he does with his hip hop music and film and, you know, I think, you know, woo-wear and just all the different facets of creative outlets, you know, it is very much Kung Fu.

And I found it so interesting because we had some deeper conversations this time regarding those principles and that thought process of like... of being a rapper and performing on stage and doing all of that is, of course, a form of Kung Fu.
