Episode 191: Ridley Scott Watch Series #30 (THE DOG STARS, 2026)

As always, we kind of like to talk about the news of the week, which we have a lot of, and what we watched this week too.

We're on a tight schedule today.

We want to accommodate, make sure that we're good for time with Simon, but we'll power through it.

So I think you had a couple news items of the week.

John, what did you...

I

just want to mention about TIFF.

TIFF just kicked off.

A lot of new films being premiered, some worldwide, some just premiering here in Canada.

The new Corrida film, Martin McDonagh, Matthew Rankin, who's one of my favorites, of course, Takashi Miike's new movie.

Bad Lieutenant Tokyo is very excited for that one.

There's a new movie by Shinya Tsukamoto, the filmmaker behind Tetsuo and other movies.

And actually, I just saw recently the new Werner Herzog film, Bucking Faster, starring the Mara sisters, premiered.

And it's actually good.

Apparently, it's been getting good reviews.

I was kind of skeptical.

I was like, is this just going to be kind of like him kind of phoning it in? I mean, a lot of his stuff more recently has been his documentary features and this is a proper kind of feature.

It's not, this one's, this one's I think loosely based on a true story, but yeah, it's been getting good reviews.

So a lot of stuff's been playing at TIFF.

It'll be kind of fun to see that trickle out.

Cause TIFF kind of marks now the like official Oscar season start.

That's like the big festival in the fall.

And then you'll see everything start to kind of build, build some hype train.

So be nice to see some of these in the near future.

That's that's basically what I have for news on my side.
