[crowd cheering] Summer 1986, and the world's eyes are on Britain for a spectacular sun-drenched royal wedding.

[bells ringing] The young and dashing Prince Andrew, as we then knew him, marries girlfriend Sarah Ferguson.

They embody the age of the yuppie, which celebrates youth, ambition, and self-confidence.

[suspenseful music] Five days later, on Monday July 28th, 25-year-old Suzy Lamplugh leaves her flat in Putney, south of the Thames.

She just enjoyed going to the pub and, uh, you know, people say she was very pretty and maybe [laughs] she was.

I'm her brother, of course, and, uh, I, I think the estate agents at the time, um, sat her in the front window because, yeah, she was probably attract customers in and she was right the first person they would see.

At 12:45, the office diary records Suzy meeting a mystery man referred to as Mr. Kipper.
My name is Michael Barley.
In July of 1986, I was a detective sergeant at Fulham Police Station and got assigned to the Suzy Lamplugh case.
The Mr. Kipper entry in the diary seems totally at a loss to me, anyway, as to why that name appears.
It's not a name that...
It's not a usual name.
Uh, it's not a name that appeared anywhere else in that estate agent's office.
One of the things we obviously checked was every appointment that Suzy had, and apart from that one appointment on that day, every other appointment was a genuine appointment.
So she wasn't the sort of girl that would put a, a, a time and a- an address in the diary with a view to going out for a, a cup of coffee or a bit of shopping.
I think she was a very committed worker.
I think it's a name that she just made up or it was a name given to her by a man that she was going to meet.

The drive from the estate agents to the house where she was due to meet Mr. Kipper takes just a few minutes, and that day witnesses did see a woman resembling Suzy outside the property at around 1:00 PM, along with a man carrying what looked like a bottle of champagne, but that was it.
