What happened in the West after the sack of Rome? Did the fall of the capital shock the Emperor Honorius into action? As usurpers multiplied in the West and foreigners invaded at the same time, what did the Emperor Honorius do? My argument in this episode is that the Emperor Honorius may have lost Rome, but he also lost much of the Western Roman Empire.
And why? Well, because he confused the survival of his own court and his city with the survival of the empire itself.
