Today we speak about local environment issues - we hear about the campaign to save Woogaroo Forest near Springfield, to save koala habitat from being bulldozed at Ormiston College in Redlands, and…
Kristina ZdenekGuestClaire GronowGuestClaire Gronau from Lock the Gate about what our state government has been up to, and it's bad things.
That's the too long, didn't read bit.
And I think it highlights the need for local resistance.
You know, it's when we sort of are too sort of focused all over the place, um, ultimately it leads to a loss of protection for these small places, and also we're just too, um, disconnected to sort of organize our resistance.
And so one of the great things about this show today, highlighting a couple of local groups, even though it's a bit of an uphill struggle for both of them, they're local people getting together with, um, friends and neighbors in their own suburbs and trying to protect their local environment.
And I think that's so necessary because when it is just removed to these kind of bureaucratic systems, they just don't do it, and there's a need, a constant need to, um, push back against the climate criminals who just want to push everything out of the way to make the most money as quick as they can.
And unfortunately, that is so often the situation that we're in.
But, um, people are doing things, and one other local campaign that I didn't get a chance to cover in the show, but I will mention, is that down at Beaudesert there is a campaign against a toxic waste incinerator.
I don't know much about it, but they are having a rally next Saturday.
If you're in the Scenic Rim region down there in Beaudesert, you could get along to that.
Of course, lots of other local events as always happening, and as I often do, I'll just plug the Brisbane Radical Events Diary as a place where you can find them all in one place.
You don't need to hope that the algorithm magically directs them your way.
You can get to that website where they're lovingly put together for your viewing, and then get along to them, meet some of the other people in your city who are also interested in change, and, um, get together.
Maybe we can, um, start something, build some momentum, and make a better city.
