It was a fundraiser for an organization that I was the president of called Equita Society.

And that was when it suggested to me that this resonated with people, that people wanted a way to say thank you to those who serve our country.

The other thing that we were trying to accomplish then is, you know, people tend to associate the word veteran with Remembrance Day, and they tend to associate it with you know, an older generation, those who were in the First World War, Second World War, or those who have fallen.

And what they fail to remember is that the longest war Canada ever fought in was the Afghan War.

So we wanted to have a day when, unlike Remembrance Day, where we say thank you while they're still among us.
