What happens when a sponsor crashes Lionel Messi’s farewell? Today, Alejo breaks down the drone show that opened with a sponsor’s logo at Messi’s last game with Argentina, the team takes on a New York…
Hey guys, it's your boy Alejo, and in case you missed it, Messi played his last game with the Argentinian national soccer team earlier this week.
And what started off as an emotional night for many Messi fans, ended up losing some of its feel-good vibes because of corporate greed.
And now I know, the whole sport, FIFA, the whole event, it's all business.
So yeah, corporate greed surrounds us.
So, following the match, a drone show kicked off and the first thing fans see is a huge image of the Sankor Seguros logo, to which fans in the stadium were very vocal.
Sancor Seguros is getting a huge amount of backlash that they actually had to disable comments on IG.
But the AFA, which is the Argentine Football Association, is also catching some heat.
But why? Well, I'm sure they had some say in the way the drone show was set to go down.
But, did Sancor offer more money for a huge ad right at the beginning? Or was this already pre-approved? I don't know.
And look, as much as Sancor is the visible corporate here, the AFA también tiene la culpa.
But, ya pasó.
And as much outrage as there was from the fans, let's be real.
You already know people are still going to show up for these games.
So hopefully, San Juan Seguros and other brands take notes on how not to sponsor Farewell Tribute.
But I guess we'll wait and see.
