617: Rumspringa

Now, I'm sure you already know what rumspringa is.

Do you know what that is? I know what it is.

But do you know how it comes to life in the New Girl universe? Well, if you're here listening to this podcast, probably.

When Jess starts to panic about her upcoming first day as principal, Nick and Schmidt take her on a rumspringa, a rumspringa of her own, to shake out the jitters.

Meanwhile, Winston works on finalizing his divorce with Rhonda.

But it's not going to be easy for obvious reasons.

This is one of the most unhinged episodes in both directions.

And it feels like it goes out of like our usual new girl storytelling devices, which is why when I rewatched it, I was like.

Almost like uncomfortable because I was like, I don't.

When are we going back to the loft?

When

do these stories come together? Oh, no? We're just going to do it separately.

Which is kind of nice to think after so many, you know, episodes and seasons, you can still be surprised by New Girl.

Yeah.

I

do love that about

it.

I mean, you know, it's typically in sitcom fashion, you follow a formula, right? what works is what works.

People want to know they're tuning into the exact same energy that they love.

And sometimes when you shoot so many episodes and you have so much mileage on a show, you just kind of switch it up a little bit.

And this is one of those episodes.

And Hannah said this is her favorite episode of all of New Girl.

It's

definitely one of the weirdest.

I will say that.
