Alex BirkettHostUm, but last week I was on this Edward Sturm podcast and he just zoomed in on like listicles and was like, but like, there's all these people in these data suggesting that listicles are being like punished by Google.
And I was like, every single one I've seen, like we did like a, I did, I wrote a point by point teardown of Lily Ray's post that was very strategically worded as a question.
Like, is Google cracking down on self promotional listicles? So she never actually says it.
And then she presents this sort of leading kind of data, but just always asks a question.
And we had clients being like, you guys, like, should we worry about this? And I was like, literally, at the end, she shows that Almost all of the examples she's using have massive amounts of AI generated content.
So I mentioned that and he goes, no, no, it's not just hers.
I, unlike Benji, I'm like a very head down on my work kind of guy.
And I just don't read as much as everyone else about like the latest news.
So I'm like, I don't know.
And I was thinking about, I should have just Googled it.
So he starts going off on this about self-promotionalistic goals.
It was this whole thing where it gets like contentious in the podcast.
And I was like, then I almost started fighting with people in the YouTube comments once it went out.
And it's just deceitful nonsense.
But the example I use on that of like, if you are an accounting software, and you're going after a keyboard, like accounting software, or accounting software for small business, and you write what like some long piece that's human written high quality explaining why you're a good accounting software for small business.
I don't know of a single example of getting dinged.
And we've been doing this for eight plus years for dozens, maybe a hundred plus clients with extreme stability in rankings.
But there's this narrative that, that people are saying that a few like, I don't know, influencers are saying.
And once that narrative is out there, then everyone just tacks on.
But my latest thinking is fine.
