October 14, 2026: Minisode: Ulysses Owens Jr.

Ulysses Owens Jr, the new album is called Kind of Grunge, and it's-

It's so good

...

it is so good.

It's got so many of the songs-

Oh, thank you

... that were, um, important to me in their timeframe, like Nirvana and Pearl Jam and the version of Alice In Chains, Would?, is incredible.

[jazzy music]

My partner doesn't music the way that I music.

I put that album on and within, like, seconds of the first so- uh, actually, I think it was, like, a little bit into Even Flow, he's like, "What is this?"

[laughs]

And he's had it on repeat for weeks.

Just gotta say, I love how you made a verb out of music.

Right.

[laughs]

I'm totally stealing that from you.

[laughs]

[laughs]

Totally.

All of it.

Um, but what was your relationship to those songs in the timeframe? I think you were probably around 10-ish years old, nine, 10 years old.

I'm assuming you're in this church era that we heard about before.

Did you have a relationship with these songs when they came out? Or did your relationship with them develop as you became a musician?

I had no relationship.

Matter of fact, if you kinda follow that journey of the grunge, you know, it began with Drumeo, like, three years ago, going there, and there was this viral video of me playing Nirvana music just myself.
