Fela Kuthi, an absolute titan of music.

And what Fela does is he takes the vibrating energy of Lagos and he forges an entirely new genre called Afrobeat.

Now, to understand Afrobeat, you have to realize it isn't just one simple rhythm.

He essentially takes traditional West African polyrhythms.

He takes high life.

He puts it all into a blender.

He does.

But the structure of the resulting music, Afrobeat, is what is so telling about the city of Lagos itself.

One of the things about me, I'm very versatile, so I'm not scared of any genre.

I've already, in the two, three years that I've done Latin, I've done everything from Afrobeat to reggaeton to something bachata urbano mixed with we don't know what the heck sound is that.

There was somebody that, when I did the Bailemos record, which is like a bachata Caribbean record, they were like, what the heck is that? We don't know, but we like it.

And I'm like, I don't know either, but I like it.

Yeah, it's a little vibe.

It's going to be a little vibe.

It kind of has that little Caribbean, Afrobeat feeling.

Like, I'm in Jamaica, I'm in DR from Aguita Coco, right? The song that I just released before this one, which was very tropical.

Because it was a smooth Afrobeat song from the UK and an African artist collaboration.
