Episode 116 - 9/11 25 Years Later

And I think two things were happening.

One was like, comedy will never be funny again.

I think that was like kind of a, like, how could you do late night comedy again? There was an air of that.

Gilbert Godfrey would notoriously go tell 9-11 jokes like a week later.

Oh,

yeah.

Yeah.

There's a whole rash of comedians that really kind of got in trouble for that, like to an extent.

But I wanted to like Steve Ren and Zizzy make a comment about 9-11 and he was lying about it like exclusively.

I think he said his dad died in 9-11 or something like that.

Mm hmm.

that was not true um but then you have someone like pete davidson right who at the time was a child and his dad died because he was a new york firefighter and his his dad died in the towers and then he comes out and gets like

roasted

about like his dad dying in 9-11 just recently in uh like the kevin hart roast i guess it was right um

so like how far we've come in 25 years Yeah, I wanted to mention that I think the one group of people who handled this moment the best in retrospect was actually South Park.

I don't know if you remember the episode where they were making fun of one of the kids' mom who was just locked in, frozen on her side, watching the news.

And they were kind of mocking that whole, like, I got to sit in front of the TV and watch the news 24-7.

And they were the first ones to kind of take it on.

And they would do it multiple times during the War on Terror as well.

Yeah, I think that's true.

I mean,

they even did an Osama bin Laden character on South Park.

Yeah.

But, like, even then, it didn't matter which news you watched.

Like, now it matters.
