26th Friday in Ordinary Time - Year A

Hi, this is Father Nick Smith, pastor of St. Patrick's in Perry.

Today, the church celebrates the Feast of the Guardian Angels, those heavenly helpers who are assigned specifically to us to help us in our Christian life on the way to the Kingdom of Heaven.

The angels, remember, are the ones created at the beginning of time.

who are assigned to serve creation, to serve human beings as we make our way towards heaven.

Every person is assigned a guardian angel, whether baptized or not.

That angel is assigned to us from all eternity.

And so your angel and mine have been waiting from the dawn of their creation for us to come into the world so that they might guide us and guard us, protect us and enlighten us as we engage in our Christian life and in our relationship with God.

We do well to befriend our guardian angel.

Our guardian angel is literally here to serve us.

It has one job to make sure that we come closer to God and get to heaven.

As the gospel says today, the angels in heaven always look upon the face of the Heavenly Father.

And so they are examples to us of how to be totally devoted to God, how to desire and hunger for the presence of God, even while we live here on earth in this valley of tears.

So let us ask the intercession of our guardian angel.

Let's resolve to make friends with our guardian angel who is always here to be at our disposal to make sure that we come closer to God and his kingdom.
