I know you're such a busy guy, so kind of you to, um, agree to come on the Carpentry show.
It's, um, a real asset for us to have an absolute professional in the field, because we just wanted to talk about weather.
And it's been such a wild year of weather so far, okay? So completely washed out in the first part of the year, and now unprecedented temperatures during sort of June and the heatwave.
I mean, how does 2026 compare to previous years you've worked through as a weather presenter?
Well, firstly, let me just shout out to all the tradies that work in your field, whether it's carpentry, brickwork, whatever it is that you do.
I've got a huge amount of respect for people that work outdoors, especially during, uh, testing conditions like, uh, heatwaves, uh, but also wind and rain.
And obviously as a carpenter, I'm sure you've probably found yourself loads of times, uh, up on a roof, uh, in blazing sunshine, Robin, which i- it sounds great when you think, oh, yeah, the weather looks pretty good today, but when you're out in it for hours on end, it can be, you know, really testing a- and also really dangerous.
Yeah, it's, it's, it's been record-breaking in a number of ways from, you know, uh, the warmest spring on record, and now we're getting into summer.
Uh, you know, we had, uh, that significant heatwave at the end of May, and then we've come into June, and June's been warmer than average, and we've seen record-breaking temperatures.
And, you know, we, uh, often people are talking about the, the very memorable heatwave of 1976, but people probably don't realize that in terms of, um, summers, the 1976 summer is now sixth in the list.
We've had much hotter summers since then, and as you will know, in the last week or so, some really blistering temperatures, the first time that we've had three days, uh, where the temperature has been higher than 35 degrees Celsius.
So yeah, it's been very memorable, and I've been completely run off my feet, as you can imagine, in these kinds of conditions.
