Sarah and Courtney talk about how folks might be resistant to organizational change, but that leaders can navigate through the uncertainties of change through establishing buy-in, rewarding short-term…
Sarah BurressHost
Courtney, why don't you give us a little bit of research to get us grounded in our conversation?
So, Sarah, I love how you introduced this topic by saying it's everyone's favorite because it's interesting to me that we as humans become so resistant to change.
And yet, I mean, would you want to eat the same thing for dinner every single night? Yeah.
Like, I'm not saying could you, but I'm just saying, like, would you, if given the choice, would you literally eat the same dinner every single night? You may have your favorite go-tos.
So do you want to work every day or would you like to change it up and every now and then, I don't know, take a vacation to go hiking or go to the beach?
And it certainly is a necessary part of organizations and how organizations function.
But I do want to say that change is most of the time can be stressful, right? I'm going to go back to the example that I like to give, which is speaking of hiking, pretend like you are going for a hike and you are going to camp out at this hiking site and you have had a nice wonderful dinner by the campfire.
Maybe you've cooked some s'mores and you're getting ready to settle inside your tent and you climb into your tent and then after you settle down, you hear a rustling outside of the tent and you zip that tent open.
