The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes presents “The Book of Tobit,” originally broadcast March 26, 1945. This local archival recording is episode 172 of the series and stars Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson.
When a clergyman brings Holmes word of ominous messages signed “Asmodeus,” the detective is drawn into the troubled circle of Lady Diana Vennering, whose impending marriage recalls two earlier wedding-night deaths. Written by Anthony Boucher and Denis Green, this Mutual Broadcasting System drama uses the biblical allusion to the Book of Tobit in a suspenseful early-1900s London mystery.
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
