Nails tear through the UK, Trivium unveil their Eastern darkness-inspired new album, and Aerosmith plot their own Back to the Beginning style party. Releases: Slope - Same Kids. Just Louder…
from the last album essentially that being brought into the set preceded by a carlos cruz drum solo but if you if you're a big nails fan you know the catalog you can tell it's about to go into lacking the ability to process empathy because the drum solo like incorporated the beat into it so you can do cool stuff like that and todd is still having the time of his life uh being just you know back in nails full-time um having such a blast with it uh they did release of course a few weeks ago that new seven inch um dollar bin generation and fear based life being the two tracks from it they played those two songs just in the middle of the set back to back as they are on the seven inch and both i would say are absolutely fantastic additions to the nail set list not just two more minute long songs to you know freshen things up and make up the numbers or whatever but both brought a specific like ah that's the moment in the set because dollar bin generation is a you know a fast crazy punk song like nail songs are but it's preceded by that brilliant roto tom phil and i was waiting for that moment uh and then fear based life being the much like stankier groovier i compared it to a nails danzig song because it has that kind of like swaggering uh snakes of christ kind of feel um in the riff both back to back work really really well and then when you're getting all the way through to of course you know the last run of you will never be one of us a sneaky friend to all in there which is like 20 seconds and then the main one two they always close on now of suffering soul into unsilent death you can't really go wrong my only complaint uh this is an ongoing complaint is give me the painkiller from every bridge burning the the i would say the runaway breakout hit from uh that that track that album no longer in the set list and it was in the set list to my memory when they came back for damnation first time right like when they had the album out and they came out to support and they played damnation it was in the set and we all went mad for it because we were so enthusiastic about that song but then it missed the set list for the the creator tour and i was like well you're playing in front of a thrash metal crowd here surely you should put your most speedy song in the setlist there and then come back for the headline tour playing slightly longer and it's still gone so i don't know where that song has gone missing i hope it doesn't you know just vacate the premises forever because it was such a you know again a valuable addition and a an immediately iconic song i would say um in the nails arsenal it's a real shame if it's just vanished but otherwise that one complaint aside uh nails was fucking killer let's get into the news today and i suppose we'll start off similarly on the hardcore front turnstile uh made a bit history this week as they seem to do every single week of the last like you know five years haven't they um but turnstile this week became the first hardcore band in 45 years to play on the american edition of saturday night live if you're wondering who played 45 years ago because i was wondering that i was like what band from you know 81 that would be would have played saturday night live i was like did black flag play that'd be fucking mental apparently it was fear the 80s hardcore band Fear, so there you go.
My favourite part of this is Dakota Johnson, the actress, was the guest host for SNL this week.
Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance at the end of this, like when the, you know, the credits are rolling and everyone who's been on the show is like, hey, having a good time behind the credits.
Taylor Swift appears hands Dakota Johnson a birthday cake and Turnstile are just standing there on the other side of Dakota Johnson and Brendan like slowly eking out of the way while you know the real celebrities in the room like you know eat up all of the limelight but just that weird incongruousness and tracking the facial expressions going on quite amusing so Turnstile making some history there.
Aerosmith are up to something at the moment they have announced after a period away from the stage that they are going to be doing a big bash show I don't know if this is strictly labelled as I mean what would it be now their fucking fourth or fifth farewell date I don't know it could well be positioned as a big grand finale because the vibes that this gives off is very much like they've looked at the Ozzy Osbourne back to the beginning thing and gone we should do a bit of that because what they are doing is a big, you know, dedicated event in California of Aerosmith and Friends, where Aerosmith are going to be playing live, of course, but they are going to be joined across this day by the Black Crows, Run DMC, Hart, Andrew Watt, Billy Idol, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, oh no, sorry, that's just Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, sure, okay, Slash and Duff McKagan from Guns N' Roses, of course, Eric Church, Jerry Cantrell, and Mike Inez from Alice in Chains.
sammy hagar tom morello and pat monahan from train which i know that we had our complaints about some of the people who appeared on the um back to the beginning bill but at least you've got to give them this none of them are in train So I would say maybe slightly more prestigious.
But anyway, October the 29th and November the 1st is when these two dates at the Hollywood Bowl are going to be happening.
I don't know, but Aerosmith... getting up to their own back-to-the-beginning type business.
Speaking of how busy last week's news was, one of the things that we spoke about last week was, of course, the announcement that Enshikari are going to be going on a hiatus at the end of next year and at the end of the current touring cycle for their album that came out earlier this year.
in that announcement they were like you know we are going to make these last couple years as celebratory as we can and this does also include new music we have some new music in in the tanks and i that didn't surprise me i was like okay cool maybe we get like you know a last ep or something along the lines like you know before they uh they can go away at the end of this period I wasn't expecting to get that the following week after that announcement, but they have in fact done that.
They've released a, at least for now, one single, which is called Higher Ground.
So, you know, what's this, about maybe under six months from the release of the album earlier this year? This year and I did say Again last week we discussed Met and Shikari That the new album from this year is probably My least favourite and a Shikari album It's the one that you know made The least emotional impression on me I suppose so you know More music coming from that kind of Era of the band like I don't necessarily How high my That sounds really cruel, because expectations are high in the sense that there is always a baseline of quality that Enshikari have, so absolutely not surprised that more material would live up to that.
But you know what I mean, I'm not sure if I'm expecting the greatest ever material of their career as the follow-up singles from... a slightly weaker album put out earlier this year.
I would say that songs like, you know, Find Out the Hard Way and Dead in the Water, being the two that have stuck in my memory from the album earlier this year, are, you know, the higher bar of Enter Shikari music in 2026, at least.
And the way that Enter Shikari hooked recently, I don't know what it is, it kind of goes back to the the goldfish song from the previous album which i do like for the record um but somehow they just keep ending up on their most like comedic or comical hooks and this one the uh gotta get to higher ground to spread the love around does It kind of, again, strikes that Enshikari slight parody sort of tone that people who don't like them would maybe, you know, besmirch them with.
It has a really big, stupid raver drop in it when it really gets going, which you're always happy to hear from Enshikari.
And I would very much like if this was not, you know, especially considering they've only done it the week after they announced it.
