161. Taylor Made Us Pivot! The Encore, Its Reception, & the VMAs to Kick Off TL6

Something very bizarre but predictable happened when the encore came out.

And that was that for the first like 15 to 20 minutes after its release, I'm scrolling through Twitter.

I'm not going to call it X.

Okay, I'm not doing it.

I'm scrolling through Twitter and I'm seeing all of the responses from Swifties about the songs.

And it is overwhelmingly positive.

Like 90% of the commentary is enjoying it.

Even people who are like, oh, it's quirky and corny are saying that in a way in which they enjoy it.

And then you have like one in every 10 people being like, first listen and the last.

And then I went to bed.

And then I woke up and the narrative had done what it seems to always do regarding Taylor these days.

It had shifted into the depths of hell.

It's so interesting because, I mean, granted, I don't use Twitter.

So that could play a role here.

And I've blocked a lot of particular creators on TikTok as of late.

So my TikTok feed at least feels very insulated and protected right now.

Granted, there are definitely comments that are making fun, but I've been trying to like encourage my feed a lot lately, but it does take effort.

It's not as natural as like the euphoria online during Red Taylor's version.

Yeah, I understand why people might not like these songs, right? But I keep going back to this line that says, if you didn't like the show, why would you stay for the encore? It is so bizarre to watch in real time.

hate become more normalized than love.

And by that, I mean, snarkers are staying up till midnight to listen or waking up at 5 a.m. to listen or making more videos talking shit than people who love the music, making videos about how much they love it.

It is really fucking weird.

If you did not like the life of a showgirl, why would you like the encore? Yeah,

it's just kind of weirdo behavior to care that much.

Like, I don't know artists that I don't like.
