Unforgiven vs. 9 to 5: Even The Score

We're going to start with Unforgiven, the plot.

Retired old West gunslinger Will Money reluctantly takes on one last job to avenge an injustice with the help of his old partner and a young would-be gunman calling himself the Schofield Kid.

This movie came out in 1992.

It has a 96 on Rotten Tomatoes.

I have to say Ice-T did this first, not this exact comparison, but great minds think alike.

He actually used the themes of Unforgiven to compare to his song Cop Killer.

In his book from 1994 called The Ice Opinion, he talked about the themes of Cop Killer and the themes of Unforgiven and how they're both about revenge against crime.

unjust authority figures and that the film got a bunch of praise, won Oscars, including Best Picture, while his song got criticism, presidential condemnation, police boycotts, death threats to Warner Brothers.

So Ice-T was talking about that hypocrisy and how we treat different types of art, which great work, Ice-T.

Now he, you know, he thinks the film was a good film, but it's like the reception to one versus a reception to the other.

That's exactly what we talk about here.

I will never not love Ice-T, especially as Detective Finn Tutuola.

But Unforgiven, it won four Oscars.

It won Best Picture.

It won Best Supporting Actor, Gene Hackman.

It won Best Director, Clint Eastwood, and Best Film Editing for Joel Cox.

Nominated for another five, Best Actor, Clint Eastwood, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Sound.

Clint lost Best Actor to Al Pacino and Scent of a Woman.

Another movie I've never watched.

I feel like I've seen it parodied in Master of Disguise by Dana Carvey.

Oscar winning editor Joel Cox is like, I was like, wait, he's like the dark man movie editor.

I was looking at his IMDb Prisoners, American Sniper, Mystic River, J. Edgar.

And then I go, because it's all Clint Eastwood stuff almost.

And Clint is the dark man movie maker.

J. Edgar was so boring.
