Scent of a Woman

You know, how do you compute that? And that's why, you know, going back to when I saw it when I was 16, how could that not blow you away as a teenager? How could that, inappropriate choice of phrase, but how could that not have? a huge impact when you, I knew the name Al Pacino.

I think probably scent of a woman had been out at that point.

You know, there was all this stuff.

And it's a, it's a, it's a bank heist, but it's not, you watch it.

90s was such a massive decade.

I mean, it started with Dick Tracy, which, by the way, is such an underrated movie.

And then there you've got Scent of a Woman, The Insider, Any Given Sunday, Carlito's Wang.

OK, yeah, yeah.

Yeah.

Carlitos Way, 1993 is what we're talkin' It's got Al Pacino and Sean Penn Reuniting with De Palma who directed it From a script that was written by David Koepp Kinda weird that De Palma and Pacino Made another film about a Latino Al Pacino does another crazy accent too Scarface with a little less attitude But I gotta admit, I think the movie's kinda the shit And Al Pacino's fuckin' good in it It's got a lot of great sequences with frequent twists And Sean Penn's hair is some freaky shit But critics wouldn't throw it a bone They tried to claim it was nothing but a Scarface clone But Carlito's more laid back He's trying to stay back But he can't avoid the payback But all the reviews complain And Al Pacino wasn't on his game Fresh off the Oscar for Scent of a Woman I think the critics had it out for him Then it came out on DVD And through the years it has built a new legacy It's not a Scarface copy like the haters say, okay? It's just Carlito's way Carlitos way it is Al Pacino's in his bag Carlito's way it is, oh yeah Still I see no changes after all the years of consideration Carlito's way is still not appreciated Barely mentioned in Pacino's filmography And you never see his face on a graphic tee But every time I go to the mall I see Tony Montana on the racks and walls If you walk into a Spencer's Gifts or a Hot Topic It's all Scarface shit Target Kohl's, Urban Outfitters, Chute Palace, all got the scar face.

Where's my Brigante? When's the day when I walk up to the racks and see Carlito's wave fanny pack staring back at me? You'll never find him in those stores, and you don't ever see the poster in no college dorms.

We gotta start making changes and stop seeing Carlito as a pale imitation.

That kid, in my opinion, ever see Scent of a Woman? Al Pacino, I think we won Best Actor for that.

It was phenomenal.

Or is that those bratty kids from the prep school there? Remember it was played by Philip Seymour Hoffman? You gotta have to go see the movie.

You know, I, I saw a post, "If your pastor doesn't know your name, it's time to get a new church." You think Peter knew all 3,120 people's names on the day of Pentecost, you blockhead? Jeez, be more self-important.

Reminds me of that scene in, um, Scent of a Woman when Al Pacino's brother's wife says, "How come you still don't know my name?" He goes, "Probably because it's not important to me." Now, that's not the case with me, but it's a funny answer.

So this girl gets a boyfriend.

She's an older teenager and, uh, prob- she's out of high school.

So there's a liveliness, and we let them also dictate elements of what we do, and I think that that's what it is too.

Um, plus, I've, as a fellow said, I've, as Al Pacino said in, in Scent of a Woman, "I've been around." And I think on that basis, you go, "You know what?" If you've been around, you're not afraid to let somebody say, "Why don't we do this? Give that-" and you go, "Okay, let's see what happens here." So I'm not afraid to have a go at things like that.

I, I think, I think that helps and helps my enthusiasm because I still love it.

I hate even to use the word, but is retirement a dirty word for you?

And I, and I have, there's a whole bunch in here, like Scent of a Woman.

I mean, it goes on and on.

There's so many movies in, in the '90s that I was just trying to pare down to have some, a little bit of-
