Thank you for being here! This episode is for anyone who has talked themselves out of something before they even tried, because someone else told them it was too hard, too risky or just not possible…
Christina PengillyHostEspecially as humans, we, uh, majority of the time, unless we have awareness around it, we're trying to avoid discomfort.
We're trying to avoid anything that could potentially bring up discomfort, fear, whatever it may be.
We don't like feeling uncertain about everything, right? Anything, not everything, anything at all.
And naturally, as we move through life, and we have desires to go after certain things, achieve certain goals, follow certain paths, there are going to be other people who have had similar experiences or desires in their own time, and sometimes those people will have had experiences where it didn't work out for them, or it did become a limitation for them, or it didn't, you know, go the way that they thought, or it was harder than, you know, they thought.
But I think so often what happens is when we go on our own journey to achieve a certain thing or get to a certain point in our life or pursue the business, insert your thing, we're so quick to look external of ourselves for answers from other people or evidence from other people in regards to what's possible versus what isn't.
And whilst there are so many people in the world that pave the way in a very powerful light to show you what's possible and what's, you know, achievable in whatever pursuit you're going after, there's also gonna be a lot of people who, like I mentioned, have had a lot of limitation when it comes to doing that for themselves.
And if you're seeking guidance from those people blindly, and that's the biggest thing, so it's not that you can't seek guidance, but if it's- if you're seeking guidance blindly, it's going to be very easy and common for you to adopt someone else's limitation before actually ever figuring out if it was a limitation for you or not.
And a good example of this to just, like, kind of make it make sense is this podcast, for example, and this is kind of where this topic of conversation came up for me in, in me wanting to bring it to the podcast today.
When I was first starting my podcast, I actually had experiences as... on both end of the spectrum in terms of adopting a limitation from people, but then also... or I didn't adopt it, but I could have.
Uh, but then also having people in my corner that really pushed me to do the podcast regardless of limitations that I had in my own mind for whatever reason.
So on one hand, I had limitations in my own mind around starting a podcast because at the time I was doing YouTube as consistently as I could.
Uh, obviously social media, like, trying to grow my short form platforms, working part-time, um, you know, running a home, wanting to invest into my marriage, having quality time, all that stuff.
Like, I had a lot on my plate at the time of thinking about starting a podcast, right? And at that time, the limitation that I had in my mind because I had had conversations around this in the past and then had just adopted it as truth for myself was, well, I'm afraid of starting a podcast because I'm afraid that I might not be able to commit to every single week, that I might drop the ball, that it might just be more evidence of the fact that I don't see things through.
And whilst there's been intentional choices for me around what I am choosing to prioritize in this season, for a period of time, that was quite uneasy for me to sit with because I was so afraid of what happens then if I start this thing and then I don't follow through, or I start this thing and then I can't stay consistent.
And Jackson actually here at JT, at the time the studio was at Jackson and Tori's house, they had just set up the studio.
And then, like, literally every other day after I said that, he and also Cade, uh, our friend, and Cruz would all say, "When are you starting the podcast? Just come in and record.
