Before I do so, I'd like beginning and ending my episodes with either a personal anecdote or a piece of art or a piece of beauty, and I'm going to combine those two.
Here's an anecdote.
When I'm walking through the city of New York, and I welcome anyone to join me if you guys would like to.
I usually do that to go out and sort of just talk to people and be in the milieu.
What people might be surprised at is I get recognized if I go from, let's say, Tribeca to Battery Park or Foday to Washington Square Park, mostly downtown is where I stay and where I linger, I'll get recognized everywhere I go.
And what people might find as a surprise is 90% of the time that people approach me, it's not your traditional Republicans.
or right-wing individuals that are like shaking my hand and asking for a picture because they believe me to be aligned with their party's interests.
It's not.
90% of the people that stop me on the street are people that went through my same political arc, which is what? This might come as a surprise to you, but I have never voted Republican a day in my life.
for a long time, and I still do, consider myself a progressive and a liberal in the true meaning of the word.
Liberalism has its root in Latin, liber, which means liberty, okay? That means freedom.
from restriction.
And what is restriction in civilized, modern day, first world society? It's law.
You are prohibited from speeding through the red light because there's a red light.
There are two poles, freedom and government.
But today, liberalism has been so watered down and neutered and warped and misaligned that liberals in our day and age are the side of restriction, are the side of big government.
There's no one that could sit there across the zeros and ones of ether right now and tell me that liberals on this planet and this country are not on the side of big government.
At every instance and every crossroads in the past 20 years at least, they have chosen a side of big government.
Who was pushing all the restrictions during COVID? Who was urging you to be censored and canceled by the government or otherwise for going against wokeism? They are this sensorial intolerant beast that is currently permeating every aspect of our lives.
They don't want the government to be neutral, independent arbiters.
They want the government to be a player.
They want the government to come into your life and be an actor and an intervener.
In the small government, which is what, incidentally, our Constitution was based on, has slowly and surely become a fact of the right, which we will get to today.
But the anecdote I wanted to bring to your attention is, when I walk through the city, it's not these...
