Pepper Construction has survived the Great Depression, World War II, multiple recessions, and a global pandemic. As the family business…

Five years ago, we probably had five projects that we were tracking in our pipeline over a hundred million dollars.

So the projects have just gotten bigger, but we've been asked to build bigger projects along the way.
In the world of construction, there are lots of risks inherent in the business, but when you are inheriting the business from three generations passed down, grandfather and great-grandfather, there's much more weight than just, are we doing this right? The question is, are we focused on the right direction as a business? The gravity of the conversation i- is one that very few, frankly, in the business world get to appreciate.
Over the last few years, I've gotten to know an entrepreneur who I respect, a guy named Jake Pepper.
Jake is a part of the Pepper Construction family, a nearly 100-year-old business passed down through generations, and like his father and his grandfather before him, he is learning to take on the responsibility and the yoke of leadership.
Today, we're gonna dive into much more than the evolution of a construction company that, uh, unfolds into becoming an energy company.
It is the inner dialogue of a young man learning to take the leadership, take the helm of a business that is in the throes of change in the dynamic nature of the energy sector itself, construction, et cetera.
Each week, we bring you leaders on the front lines of the energy transition, builders and operators whose daily bread is how to think about energy 2.0 and how to build teams and cultures that can, in fact, build the infrastructure we need as we move toward a renewable and clean energy future.
I hope you'll come back, but for now, I want you to dig in as we lean into another powerful conversation here on Suncast.
