was just curious um so with the formal program at the american college of building arts and then having gone through the formal program and then going into these different environments where you're carving for companies how much overlap was there between what you learned and what you actually used like was there a really direct connection or was there a lot of stuff you just had to learn on the job
I think the reason I think I was successful in those jobs and in those roles because of the base that I had from school, but also there was a load of stuff I had to learn
on the job, too.
Where were the things like you mentioned taking templates and you mentioned some of the things from the program that were applicable.
So what are the things that just you had to pick up? when you were there? Um,
kind of how to navigate and deal with a job site and navigate and deal with, um, people on the job site and then the people running and like office versus field.
yeah.
I want to talk about like the meth methodology, you know, how did you decide to land your jump from one like piece to another? We've kind of been taking like your, uh, your different ladders in your career, right? Each rung at a time.
But like, have those all been very purposeful? Have they just been sort of, have a couple of them been by like coincidence and then you've gotten more purposeful? What do you think?
I think that I've, I have taken the steps that I saw right in front of me and I didn't really, I didn't look up.
I feel like a lot of that is just kind of a function of being a little bit overwhelmed most of the time.
And so I can't really claim to have planned my career path, but I mean, I did have a hand in it.
I made the, you know, this or that choice in the immediate moment kind of a thing.
It does, because whether it's just life is chaos or whatever, I connect with that.
It's sort of like the next opportunity up is, oh, is this a good one? Yeah, I'm going to do it.
But knowing what you know now, what's your advice for other, let's say other ACBA graduates tuning in or soon-to-be graduates or wannabe students? What's your career advice, Margaret?
