And I want to start off with Mike McCarthy, the head coach, who had come out in the post game to talk about how his team it all falls on him the preparation everything that led up to the game on Sunday up in Foxborough and even he said that on Wednesday and Thursday he kind of felt and I'm paraphrasing here that something was off that there wasn't seem to be any cohesion that the practices weren't ramped up or they certainly weren't as crisp as they should be and let me tell you something if we're doing that already before week two what does this mean for the rest of the season is the wake-up call now has the alarms been set off there on the south side of Pennsylvania there in the confluence of the three rivers I hope so because for Mike McCarthy to kind of sleep and to think that after what we saw there in week one against Atlanta which was not a lot to write home about and then to think that on Wednesday and Thursday he had a pit in his stomach where he thought like something isn't right here something's not going as smooth as it should to now where all of a sudden it is the four alarm fire that is ablaze there at the Steeler Complex and hopefully they start getting it right which I'll talk about next to the point where they can only at this point go the other way and things will start to progress because after what we witnessed there oh my goodness I'm still having nightmares and even flashbacks thinking about the game and how the offensive line was Swiss cheese how the receivers were dropping balls left and right even Jeremy Bernard who had a good first half and especially the second quarter but he mishandled that pass where it was picked off there which was a microcosm of the game if you didn't watch the video yesterday I implore you to do so just to get your recap of the game and I was just disgusted and angry ah it was oh you had to avert your eyes but for McCarthy to come out and say that now hopefully that's going to be a good sign because for what he has to do to look in the mirror to try to get this offense on track the defense has played well now they've been bent but don't break as I talked about yesterday but this offense is just downright awful and they have to turn it around as early as this week and have a division opponent coming into Akershire Stadium one that could be two and a half games up If they leave Pittsburgh with a victory, that being the Cincinnati Bengals.
And oh, by the way, four days later, they got to go to Cleveland for a Thursday night game.
And hopefully McCarthy today reviewing the film or yesterday by the time you watch this, because today the players have a day off.
Maybe if they got shut out, it would have been a situation where they certainly have no... direction to go but up which I kind of tipped my hand for something I want to talk about later but boy I tell you that was just I'm glad that McCarthy came out and really if he would have come out the other way certainly everybody would have laughed at his face and I'm sure the fan base would have even probably turned on him to think that Mike what we saw there on Sunday no matter how you try to sugarcoat it no matter how you try to mask it whatever that was just downright F across the board from all facets there with the offense so McCarthy at least owned up to it and I'm sure the rest of the coaching staff Brian Angelico he has a lot to answer to the offensive coordinator and hopefully the players will also do the same as they didn't really say much in the post game but pretty much shrugged their shoulders and say hey we got to be better we got to do better and even the defense came out and said the same thing for that matter but we all know that game on Sunday was all about the inefficiency and the ineptitude of how that offense performed and listen there's no other way shape or form to even express it but now I want to get to their character because this is an offense that although the O-line is young and how many times have I talked about it throughout the course of training camp preseason how the offensive line to me is the most important unit on this team well if you didn't agree with me before I'm sure after watching that game on Sunday you have to say you know what J Reels you're right and if you haven't seen that any of those videos go back in the archives and please subscribe to the channel as a lifelong Steelers fan I would greatly appreciate it but the character of this team is really going to be now thrust because of McCarthy's admission on top of what this team needs to do to pull a 180 to at least have some semblance of an offense to go up against a Bengal team that we know is loaded offensively as well but we'll talk more about the Bengals in the matchup in a preview later on in the week but as far as the character yeah how are they going to respond to this? And I get it that they probably watched all the film and were in practice yesterday.
And McCarthy, the message that he's trying to get through to his players here to just kind of keep calm.
And I understand we're going to get a little fire through the press or whatever.
Certainly Wednesday, Thursday is going to be a microscope day considering what he said after the game there on Sunday.
And I'm sure the press is going to want to chew that up come Wednesday, Thursday to find out where McCarthy stands as far as this offense coming up to their game on Sunday against the Bengals.
So, yeah, we're going to find, quick, fast, in a hurry, the character, not only just of the team, but more so the offense.
Are they going to come out and be aggressive? Are they going to come out and be nasty? Are they going to be mean? Are they going to be assertive? Who knows? But we can only hope that this team gets a transplant because if this is going to be, dare I even say the same song and dance, but I don't want to see glimpses.
If they're going to run the ball between 85 and 95 yards a game, I want to see that.
I don't want to see 58 week one, 82 on Sunday, and then they're going to revert back to 65.
Or watch them have a breakout game on the ground to where let's say they get 120 yards, but against the Browns a few days later on Thursday night, I don't want them to go back to 78 yards.
No. can't be the case and the same with the passing but the passing is going to be contingent on that offensive line the offensive line they can't block me you always see Jalen Warren in the backfield getting stopped or even if he gets a couple of yards he's literally fighting for his life to get those extra yards or extra real estate in order to get some short yard or short down or short yardage downs that's what I meant to say and That's all there is to it.
