Why can a retired superstar be called "undervalued" for years...and then suddenly explode? Guest co-host Adam from Splendid Sports joins Jeremy Lee and David Chase to examine what's happening with…
Now, you did come with a, a topic, and I wanna talk about that for a little while here, if, if we may, Adam.
What causes a retired player, like Shaq or Peyton Manning, and I'm gonna add in guys like, uh, Allen Iverson and Barry Bonds, a few others as well, who have been called undervalued for years in the hobby, to all of a sudden have their card prices spike more dramatically, uh, than the larger, the broader market cards have.
What causes that, and what does this say about the hobby and the market itself? So I'm gonna put it back to you, Adam, to sort of share your thoughts on that, and then we'll have the conversation and get people in the chat, uh, involved as well.
And, uh, and I guess when you own cards of some of these players, you might notice a little bit more, or when you're buying cards of these players, you might no- probably you notice it more if you're buying or if you, if you collect these guys.
But what are your thoughts on the topic? What, uh, what brought this topic to your mind?
Yeah, I thought it was interesting, something I've been thinking about.
You know, I mentioned earlier, I'm primarily a player collector.
And, you know, f- when I... 2021 is when I really started paying attention.
No, had no idea any of that existed before then.
And, you know, ever since I started looking at that, um, up until really recently, you'd have guys like Shaq and a Peyton Manning, and they were like, uh, chronically undervalued, right? Everyone would always...
That would be the same thing you hear over and over, like Shaq for, for the player he was, and Manning for the player he was.
Um, and you know, there's others.
But guys like that, uh, then there'd be reasons like, oh, the hobby doesn't love big men, um, or, uh, Manning was an all-time great, but he wasn't the GOAT, that's Brady, or who- what- whatever your idea would of that would be.
But there would be some reasons, but it, it would just kinda, it would be like a fact that, like, those guys, they don't sell for big prices compared to maybe guys that, uh, were as good as them, or maybe not even as good as them.
Um, so it was just like for years it was Shaq's undervalued, Peyton Manning's undervalued, and it was just kinda that's the way it was.
