So the Hawks were on their way to Victoria Park facing up against a winless Collingwood as the Hawks were looking to go to a 2-1 record after a rather impressive victory the week before up against Port Adelaide in Adelaide.
Very safe to say it was a very scrappy affair on what was a great day for footy with excellent conditions.
Collingwood side nagged away all day at the Hawks, not allowing us to be able to get into fifth gear, not allowing us to play the type of footy that we wanted to.
A strong third quarter after some words from Daniel Webster and the coaching team had the team come out absolutely firing and saw us able to run out with a rather...
Easy 28-point win to sit 2-1, currently in fifth position, as we look ahead to round four with our very first home game at the Kennedy Community Center on Father's Day.
And Liam, it's fair to say the game on the weekend is probably not one that you'll go back and re-watch too many times.
No, I wouldn't be surprised if the listener numbers are quite low for this episode on the basis of let's never speak of that again.
But, um...
Yeah, it was a really scrappy game.
I don't think we played our best footy.
We'll talk about that later.
But Collingwood deserve a lot of credit because when you're a poor side, sometimes the one thing you can always control is your effort.
And they worked really hard to make it hard for us.
The surface at Vic Park is abominable.
I was on the ground a bit before the game and it is atrocious.
And I wonder if that had a factor in the game, as some of our listeners have raised with this as well.
But yeah, it was, look, job done, four points, bit of a percentage boost because, you know, we nearly doubled their score and, correction, more than doubled their score and move on.
Yeah, I think you're right in terms of a win is a win.
It's always good to be able to get the wins on the board.
It's always great to be able to collect points as the season goes on.
Boosting that percentage is certainly going to be helpful, especially as you want to try and shore up a top four berth, especially when finals time comes around.
Yeah, I think it's probably going back to the drawing board, just in terms of what we do when teams are able to bring effort like Collingwood were, because they really stopped us and really stifled our ability to be able to play the football we wanted to, except for probably a 10 to 15 minute patch that we saw in the third quarter.
Yeah, and look, that's the one thing, no matter how good you are, how not good you are, you can always control your effort and Collingwood deserve a lot of credit for that.
Yeah, certainly do.
