Today I am joined by Amy Enos! Amy is a leader in the non-toxic lifestyle space, helping thousands of women rethink what’s in their homes and daily routines. A pharmacist of nearly 19 years with a…
Well, I think number one, you need to start being skeptical of everything that you hear.
And I think that sometimes if you see something that's very triggering and very anxiety producing, chances are that is clickbait and it's something just to make you listen.
So I always tell, sometimes I make videos myself where I say, don't, don't believe me, please just like go look this up yourself.
They're like, how am I supposed to know? Like if this, you know, in a completely different industry, you know, it could be talking about nutrition or fitness or something that I have nothing to do with.
And they're like, how, how do I even know what's, which way is up? And think it's getting harder and harder unfortunately i think i am a big proponent of health and wellness and longevity and finding the right providers um for yourself and finding people who are aligned with that for you so for example i'm a pharmacist i don't talk about medications or treatment on my social media ever it's just a hard boundary for me because quite quite honestly i'm not anybody's pharmacist i don't see the drugs you're taking i don't know your disease states i don't know what supplements you're taking and i think it's a really slippery slope for me to talk about supplements or talk about those things it it's almost like a It's an unfair influence and it's and it's not right.
I really think things like supplements and those decisions should be individualized.
So nobody on the Internet can tell you you need to take this
water filters nobody on the internet can really tell you what water filter to buy because they don't know what's in your water you have to test your water to find out what kind of water fill you know so i guess my biggest piece of advice is to just be skeptical and if you're if you're following any accounts that are causing you stress like just click the unfollow button because on the internet not on social media you can find all kinds of reputable information and not click bait and not fear-mongering etc so that's probably my best piece of advice there
Yeah, absolutely.
I love that.
And so you've been kind of going down this rabbit hole of, you know, ingredient searching for almost, I guess, 10 years now.
You said 2016, and it's kind of around the time you started.
And so I'm curious, just knowing what you know now, do you ever think we'll get to a point where companies are held accountable and the general public health is truly, you know, the priority?
I love this question, but I don't love what I'm going to say because I don't know that it's possible or that it's going to happen.
I was just working on a post that I'm... firing off tomorrow, where, you know, this industry, so if I'm talking about the personal care products, so that's generally my bread and butter, you know, the things we're using in our daily routines, you know, cleaning and skincare and hair care and lotions, your toothpaste, the things that are in your home that you use every day.
Those conventional companies that are like on the store shelves, like that contain harmful ingredients that contain toxic ingredients, right? that industry is a 3.7 trillion dollar industry so there is so much money and power tied up in that industry that it's like for me it's hard to imagine how long it would take for the tides to shift on that um it's just you know the industries that are also in cahoots with each other so you can have a completely different industry who has a waste product from their industry that they don't need that like, oh, well, actually, the cosmetics industry could use that.
