Like I said, I wanted to share this with you 'cause I felt it might be helpful for you on the podcast.
I've been chatting with a friend recently about faith and what to do when you're in a season where you're trying to decide what direction you're gonna go and how to navigate it.
So I wanna kinda open it up with a story 'cause, you know, I love stories, [laughs] and I feel like we learn lessons through stories.
So I wanna open up with this story that I was actually just telling my children.
In case you don't know or you haven't, your kids love hearing their birth story.
So if you haven't told your kids their birth story, you know, it's always great.
[laughs] But I was literally telling them about this 'cause I was like, "Guys, God, like, came through for me in such an amazing way through each of you, um, by the, by when you were born." And so they're like, "Tell me the story." So you guys might know, might not know this about me, but I am petrified of the doctor.
I don't like all your little gizmos and gadgets, and the stuff that I feel like, you know, [laughs] like, just leave me alone, okay? I do love hugs though, but I don't like the doctor or the dentist.
And so when I got pregnant, I remember feeling major fear 'cause I was like, "Oh, no, now this is just a ticking time bomb to the w- to the worst fear ever." And I was a new mom, and I just remember being like, "Lord, I don't really know, like, what should I believe about my pregnancy? What's it gonna be? What's my birth experience gonna be like?" And there were so many voices, you know? Do you ever have that where you're going through a situation and you're, like, asking people, "What should I do? What should I do here?" And you're just trying to figure out where you should land your faith.
It's kind of like you're just asking everybody else, "What do you think I should do?" You know, "What have you done?" It's like you, you don't have anything to, like, grab a hold of God from and be like, "No, this is what God has said to me and this is what I believe." So I'm, like, in that phase where I'm like, "Oh, my goodness, I'm pregnant, and what do I, how, how do I believe God?" So there's, like, all these women that are kinda sharing, like, their horror stories of what their birth experience was, and then I gra- got a hold of this book by Jackie Mays called Supernatural Childbirth.
And the whole premise of the book is how, you know- We are redeemed from the curse, and so we should not have any pain in childbirth.
And I'm like, "What, you know, what should I believe? Like, is there, is it c- should I believe that it'll be pain-free? I don't wanna be disappointed," but then also all these other women have this exper- And I'm just feeling fear, right? So I'm wrestling through this, and I'm praying, and I'm talking to people, and I'm praying, and I'm praying, "God, what should I believe? Help me to believe something." And there was one day finally where God eventually spoke to my heart.
I remember being in the bathroom, and he said, "Melissa, it's not going to be pain-free, but it's going to be a positive birth experience." Now, some of you are like, "I don't feel like I hear God's voice." Here's the thing: you do.
You do hear God's voice, and I really wanna empower you with that, and I'm very ...
But there comes a point sometimes where it feels like a settling in your spirit.
