**Hebrews 3:7 - 4:19 | Will you enter God's rest?** Introduction: Getting ready for tomorrow today Recap 1\. Today - listening to God’s voice (3:7-19) 2\. Tomorrow - entering God’s rest (4:1-13)
And this morning in Hebrews, we're going to see that the same principle applies to the Christian life.
This is a letter which has a great deal to say about tomorrow.
The author has spoken about the world which is to come.
That seems to be a focus of the letter.
And in our text this morning, tomorrow is described as the Sabbath rest awaiting all those who trust in Jesus.
And as you saw in the reading, it's the main topic of chapter four.
See it there in verse 1, therefore, since the promise of entering this rest still stands.
Verse 3, now we who have believed enter that rest.
Verse 6, therefore, since it still remains for people to enter that rest.
Verse 11, let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest.
But as we see in chapter 3, whether or not we make it to tomorrow, whether or not we enter that rest depends entirely on what you and I do today.
today if you hear his voice do not harden your hearts verse 15 again it's verse 7 verse 15 today if you hear his voice today if you hear his voice and then in verse 13 but encourage one another daily as long as it is called today This morning, we're going to set our sights on tomorrow and the rest that God invites us to enjoy.
But as we do that, we're going to think carefully about what that means for us today.
So these are our two main points that you can see on your outline.
But if you've just joined us in this series on the book of Hebrews, we've been working our way through this letter of encouragement to Jewish Christians.
Have you noticed that? The author hasn't said anything about the situation of his readers up until this point.
He hasn't said anything about himself.
We don't even know who he is.
The English preacher William Taylor summarizes the first two chapters of Hebrews like this.
