Getting things started, this week, two sisters reunite to break a family curse.
I'm sure you've heard of the Owens family.
The ones their neighbors whisper.
Our witches...
winners Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return as Sally and Jillian Owens, the two bewitched sisters who were the focus of the film Practical Magic nearly 30 years ago.
Now living a life where they think they are free from the family curse where any romantic love relationship ends in disaster, the two sisters have moved on with their lives.
After losing her second husband to the curse, Sally made sure that her now-adult daughters, Kylie and Antonia, played by Joey King and Maisie Williams, have been stripped of their magical memories to protect them.
However, the ancient family curse strikes again when Kylie expresses her love for her boyfriend Gideon, played by Jolo Maraduena, who is immediately hit by a car and left in a coma after they profess their love for each other.
Facing the harsh reality, Sally confesses their true background to her daughters.
Desperate to save Gideon, an angry Kylie steals the Book of Raven, a mysterious book left behind by the late Aunt Jet, played again by two-time Oscar winner Diane Wiest.
This book holds the secrets to Maria Owens' curse and follows visions leading her to England.
Sally and Jillian follow Kylie across the Atlantic to the village of Thornfield, where Maria Owens' magic originated.
Guided by a suggestion from Aunt Frances, played by Oscar nominee Stockard Channing, the sisters team up with Ian Wright, played by Lee Pace, a local professor specializing in historical magic who is recovering from a curse of his own.
Meanwhile, Kylie meets Tom Bailey, a seemingly helpful local who reveals details about Maria's mother, Hannah.
However, Tom is not all he appears to be, and may have had a hand in regenerating the curse that has now consumed the Owens family once again.
When I saw the trailer for this, I predicted it would be a see-it.
And I give this film a... mild see-it.
So I mentioned in trailer talk that I don't remember being a huge fan of the first film.
I was able to rewatch it before this came out, and it was fine.
Nothing memorable, clearly, but it wasn't horrible either.
This follow-up is about on the same level.
It is really strictly for the fans of the original, as it takes a similar storyline and fills it with similar beats.
