For those of you dropping in for the first time, I've been a cardiovascular perfusionist by trade for over 30 years.

Day after day for a few decades, I've watched blood circulate through the human body.

For the most part, my job, working in CT surgery, the procedures we know as heart surgery, most of these are routine for many of the teams performing them.

Thousands of people undergo these operations every day, and they recover just beautifully.

But medicine and healthcare is also very human and sometimes very unpredictable, even under the best circumstances.

Some days are heartbreaking, and like every profession, healthcare has extraordinary people and people who shouldn't be leading at all.

I found myself witnessing situations that left me really frustrated, not because medicine or the team at all is difficult, that is the furthest thing from the truth, but because some problems are not created by science.

Maybe it's your office, it's your family, it's the endless group text, which quite frankly I'm not a fan of.

Maybe it's watching people make the same decisions over and over again while expecting different outcomes.
